Project: Diaz
Project Scope
Full kitchen remodel, including drywall, electrical, moving of doors, new exterior doors and windows, cabinets, countertops, all appliances, and new hardwood flooring. The design concept was to provide a warm and inviting kitchen with gourmet features and functionality.
Problems & Challenges
Working on the project with the owners living there; working around the family cat, which was not permitted to go outside. Arming/disarming the security system.
Relationship to existing home & neighborhood
The kitchen remodel was in the same location as the existing kitchen, although some appliance locations changed.
Homeowner Objectives & Needs
The Homeowner, having purchased the house with a “builder standard” kitchen, wanted a much more functional, “chef style” kitchen, with a rangetop, multiple ovens, built-in coffee machine, and wine bar. Also, there was a desire for more light (large window) and much more functional storage in the cabinets.
Overall Results
The new kitchen has much more functional use of space, with double trash pull-out, four bin recycling center, roll out shelves on most base cabinets and pantry, lazy susan carousels on corner base and corner upper cabinets, and spice pullouts in the base and uppers on either side of the cooktop. There is a double micro/convection oven, a built in refrigerator , and wine area with two built in wine coolers and glass door upper cabinets. The color of the cabinets was custom blended to match the existing wood furniture. The cabinets are solid cherry doors and drawer fronts, and cherry veneer plywood cabinet boxes and drawer boxes. We installed granite countertops and stone tile backsplash with continuous plug strips for outlets.
The sunroom and exterior deck with two sided fireplace were part of an earlier project designed by Mike Funderburk and managed by Corey Sauter and Ken Harrison, while at a former employer. When Charlotte Design Build was formed, the Owner was enthusiastic about using us again.
